The Wisdom of John Mayer

I've recently downloaded songs sung by John Mayer since I've heard majority of these at the office. I felt really good listening to him while working so I decided to put his songs on my mp3 aside from my all-time-favorite "Your body is a wonderland".

As I listen to his music, I found the simple and funny but profound wisdom in his lyrics. I had disliked him when I heard about their break-up with Jennifer Aniston (as I am a big fan of her) but now, he is back on my favorite string masters

Here are some of the wisdom that I've picked up in his lyrics:

"I finally overcame
tryin' to fit the world inside a picture frame" - 3x5

"and most my memories
have escaped me
or confused themselves with dreams" - 83

"whatever happened to my lunchbox
when came the day that it got
thrown away and don't you think I should have had some say
in that decision" - 83

"I was a killer, was the best they'd ever seen
I'd steal your heart before you ever heard a thing
I'm an assassin and I had a job to do
Little did I know that girl was an assassin too" - Assassin

"Is there anyone who
Ever remembers changing their mind from
The paint on a sign?" - Belief  (I believe this song has one of the best lyrics there is)

"Some need the exhibition
And some have to know they tried
It's the chemical weapon
For the war that's raging on inside" - Belief

"We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for" - Belief

"What puts a hundred thousand children in the sand
Belief can" - Belief

"What puts the folded flag inside his mother's hand
Belief can" - Belief

"Why is it not my time?
What is there more to learn?
Shed this skin I've been tripping in
Never to quite return" - Bigger than my body

"Cause I'm bigger than my body gives me credit for" - Bigger than my body

"Maybe I'll tangle in the power lines
And it might be over in a second's time
But I'll gladly go down in a flame
If the flame's what it takes to remember my name" - Bigger than my body

That's all for now. I'll be posting a "part II" later on... :]

Summer Songs '10

photography Pictures, Images and Photos

Before summer completely ends, I want to list the songs that makes me think of this sunny season.
Here it goes:

  • Kokomo - The Beach Boys (I think all songs from the Beach Boys are for summertime)
  • Summer Boy - Lady Gaga
  • Ob La Di, Ob La Da - The Beatles
  • Crazy - Aerosmith
  • Summer of  '69 - Brian Adams
  •  The Great Escape - Boys Like Girls
  • Summer Sunshine - The Corrs
  • Life is a Highway - Rascal Flatts
That's as far as I can remember. I actually ran the list on my mind while riding the jeepney after my shift. Unfortunately, when my dog barked a greeting when I arrived home, the list apparently disappear.
I need to search my head for it.

July

I was planning to write about my plans for July. Now, I have trouble recalling what those plans were. Hmmm...

1. SAVE!
I'm ALWAYS planning on leaving 1 grand on my debit card every time my pay comes in but I (somehow) spend it after 3 or 4 days of leaving it there.
I know I need to save, I have a kid to raise for crying out loud! But I just can't help but spend it on to something (it's usually the edible kind).
I will now try to save this July.

2. Take Zi to get her HiB shots
I was supposed to do it two weeks ago but I just AM a procrastinator. Very bad habit.
I'm planning to take her this Monday. I need to spare Php 1,500 of my salary for this --- Oh, well.

3. Finish reading Digital Fortress by Dan Brown
I began reading this two months ago --- What the..?! When I started to work, I never got the chance to take a glance at it again.
I will now put it in my office locker and bring it to my desk. Maybe I can read it on my break.

4. Get the printer to the techie to get fixed.
I need my printer badly. It is an essential part of me. Due to procrastinating and the lack of funds, I am unable to get it fixed. I now write this down on my #4 in things to do so that I may save on the tech fee, and whatever extra charges they can imagine charging me, and finally get my poor printer fixed!

5. Print Zi's pictures
After I do #4, I'll be able to do #5 (hopefully).

6. Finish Zi's scrapbook
After I do #4 and #5, I should be able to finish the scrapebook. I hate it when I hear my mother's words ringing on my head whenever I think of the scrapbook-making thing, "I bet you will never finish that!" Grrr... I will!

7. Get serious with my NEW business
I will not disclose this new business of mine yet but I will try my best to have a post for this one when I've fully gotten to know the business I've gotten myself in...

8. Take Zi and Mom to T.G.I. Friday's
Mom hasn't eaten in Friday's yet and I want her to taste their baby back ribs --- yum, yum!
I think I can do this on my 30th payday.

9. Write more on this BLOG
I need to write at least 2-3 posts a month. That's a good start, right? I need this to keep the intellectual and creative side of my brain working (that's left and right hemispheres, right?). I also need to practice typing and enhance my written English skills (punctuation and all).

10. Pamper Java
Java (my dog) has, sadly, been neglected since my daughter came to the picture. He hasn't seen the outside world for 6 months now. Doesn't that drive anyone nuts? I feel sorry for him and I feel bad that I'm still procrastinating about. That's called hypocrisy - when you feel sorry and yet do nothing about it, don't you think?

For now, this is all that I can think of. I guess I'll just update this when I can think of other To Do's this July.
It has started raining. Summer is fleeing fast. I hope I can still hit the beach before the weather gets horribly depressing. I haven't touched sand all summer long.

25 Things!

I found a game while reading a blog I've subscribed to. I think it's interesting so I decided to give it a shot. Let's see how this works for me.

1. I love dogs ever since I saw Disney's 101 Dalmatians.
2. I (faintly) dislike my name --- Gwendolyn Therese. I think it's too feminine and proper; it's not ME. Ironically, I  hate it when I receive an ID where they don't print my full name.
3. I wasn't fond of babies and kids until I gave birth to an angel: my daughter, Zi. She is actually the first baby I've carried and actually played and cuddled with.
4. I can be insecure at other people's talents especially with regards to art but I try to remind myself (at all times) that if I was to be given all the talents in the world there would be nothing left to be insecure about. My life would be a complete bore. Who would want that?
5. I L♥VE the show HOUSE M.D. and I would not hesitate marrying Hugh Laurie (disregarding the age gap) if he'd only propose! LOL
Trivia: Did you know that Hugh Laurie was one of the villains in 101 Dalmatians? How Ironic...
6. I am a frustrated artist. My dad was one, too. I wonder if my daughter would inherit this? It'll be a vicious cycle.
7.  I love talking to myself more than to other people. I have stopped treating other people as my best friends since I realized that only dogs could give you that undying loyalty and love that you craze and (possibly) deserve. I currently have two best friends left: My dog, Java and myself.
8. The person who taught me how to play the guitar commented that I was tone-deaf since I find it hard to strum the right tune but I'm very good ear when it comes to musical compositions. Why am I weird?
9. I love the sent of wet earth. The smell of early morning mist or the wet earth after some heavy rainfall. While other noses cringe, my nostrils would flair ---trying to  capture every scent of it!
10. I am acrophobic. I simply HATE frogs and all it's relatives. I think it started when one foggy evening, after it rained, I wanted to go outside and cross the backyard towards my grandparents' house. We weren't allowed to go outside after dark since there were snakes in our backyard. My older cousin was in charge of taking care of me that time. As I opened the door, a toad greeted me with its bulging neck (ewww). I wasn't afraid of them then until my Kuya(Big brother) Jovi told me, "Hala ka, basta ihi-an gani ka ana sa mata kay mabuta jud ka! Balik diri sa sulod." (trans:"Watch out! If that [frog] urinates on your eyes, you'll be blind for life!") I ran back inside the house shivering and crying. It got stuck in my head. That's why I almost flunk every Chemistry class I am in because I skip class whenever there's a frog dissection (ulgh!).
11. I'm a natural flirt. I do it without meaning to. It gets me into trouble sometimes and I really hate it. The bad thing is, I don't notice that I'm already flirting with someone unless someone else points it out (say one of my girlfriends).
12. The #1 on my wishlist is not the cure for my Pityriasis (as my mom wanted it to be) but a NIKON (or CANON) DSLR CAMERA. I am basically drooling over pictures of it.
13. I am basically weird. Anyone who could spend a day with me will tell you (whoever is reading this) that this no lie.
14. I love Dr. Seuss' quote, "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." This had become a (somewhat) credo on how I should live my life every day.
15. I miss my Daddy. (He died a week after my daughter was born and he never got to see her. I was very excited to become a grandfather. This is one of the saddest memories that I do not want to cry over.)
16. I hate crying but I'm such a cry baby.
17. I am no longer interested in falling in love or trusting men since the day I found out the ex-love of my life and the biological father of my baby  went with the girl I hated the most in the whole wide universe!
18. My number one vice is swearing.
19. I want to become the greatest painter EVER but I'm too lazy to try.
20. I am a die-hard NOYPI (Pinoy or Filipino).
21. I have slitted eyes like my dad and before, when my skin was a little fairer, people mistake me for a Chinese.
22. I love watching other people going about their lives that's why I like hanging out at parks and foodcourts at the mall.
23. I LOOVE doodling. While my other classmates or co-workers are taking down notes, I am busy scribbling random words in my head as well as tracing along crazy lines on my notebooks. I am ashamed of this habit. I have used up our poor trees over nothing.
24. i simply hate people who tell lies and talk ill of others. I have learned (and am trying to perfect) this trait of NOT paying attention/listening to gossip however close they are to my hearing. HEAR NO EVIL> SPEAK NO EVIL.
25. I don't like writing. I'm not very good with putting my thoughts on paper.

My First Article

I started this blog in hopes that I may regularly make articles in order to improve on transforming my thoughts into tangible words as well as increase my WPM (God knows how slow I am) but alas, I haven't even gotten to making my first post.

So here I am, making my first article: writing about what I have FAILED to do for this blog. I don't think I'll have any followers in this blog, though. This is a blog by me, for me; and the definition of ME is actually quite different and difficult to comprehend. ME isn't really reading material. I think of myself as someone who's hard to remember and easy to forget. But I bet those people who have really gotten to know me will never forget me though they will seldom remember things about me. I am ranting senselessly again without any sense of direction. This is what I don't like when making posts; I wind up being so far from my topic. I will try to tame my wandering brain.

If you ever are routed by Blogger to my site and happen to read even just a part of one of my posts, I thank you and I hope the few words that I typed that you read will be criticized, positively or negatively, in your mind.

j3hj3hmOWn Much?

The first time I heard the word "Jejemon", I thought, "Is that a new Digimon character?"... I then realized what it meant when I saw it on PBB (Pinoy Big Brother) and had a really good laugh... I'm not sure how to explain it so I'll just post what I found on y research about this new found language based from the beautiful minds of the crazy SMS texters.

The Jejemon Keyboard

Jejemon is a pop culture phenomenon in the Philippines. A Jejemon is defined by Urban Dictionary as "who has managed to subvert the English language to the point of incomprehensibility and online lynch squads."[1] A Jejemon is described as a "new breed of hipsters who have developed not only their own language and written text but also their own sub-culture and fashion." - Wikipedia

The language of the Jejemons, called Jejenese, is derived from EnglishFilipino and their code-switched variant Taglish. Their alphabet, Jejebet, uses the Roman alphabet, including the Arabic numerals and other special characters. Words are created by rearranged letters in a word, alternating capitalization, over-usage of the letters H, X or Z and mixture of numeric characters and our normal alphabet.[2]
Examples:
  • Filipino: "Eow PowZ, mUsZtAh nHa?" translated into Filipino as "Hello po, kamusta na?, translated into English as "Hello, how are you?"
  • English: "i LLyK tO knOw moR3 bOut u, PwfoH. crE 2 t3ll mE yur N@me? jejejejeje!" translated into English as "I like to know more about you, care to tell me your name? Hehehehe!"  - Wikipedia

I must admit, the first time I received a Jejemon text I felt greatly irritated (still do but with less vehemence). Most teenagers use this or those with a teenager's heart.. I don't use this myself since I don't send SMS that much anymore.

But anyway, I just like sharing this because in some ways, it is cool and creative... Go Pinoy!
